The 3 Types of Intuition

I’m a professional intuitive working with clients all over the world. In this piece, I talk about the three types of intuition and how I see them show up within myself and my clients.

2023 Themes

Learning the 3 types of intuition from the HeartMath Institute research has allowed me to overlay my expertise in the psychic/“clair” senses, the chakras, and the enneagram to support my clients with new context.

It has allowed me to hone my own gifts more intentionally and understand each gift’s challenges and communication style.

Intuition can feel nebulous but there are practical ways we can work with how it communicates to attune to the wisdom we already know.

Our bodies are firing off information constantly. The key is to learn how to interpret that knowing and not overthink or dismiss it.

These three types of intuition validate my theory that your heart and body wisdom may communicate slightly differently than your spiritual guides.

BOTH are intuition and the more you can trust reading yourself, the more you can read everything, be more creative and receive an uninterrupted flow of guidance in your everyday life.

1. Implicit Knowledge or Implicit Learning

Implicit knowledge is knowledge we absorbed previously and either forgot or learned passively.

How to notice Your implicit knowledge / learning

  • being on "auto-pilot"

  • "lightbulb moments" / downloads

2. Energetic Sensitivity

Energetic sensitivity is the nervous system's ability to notice and respond to environmental signals (i.e. electromagnetic fields).

Key themes:

  • environmental sensitivities

  • social awareness (i.e. knowing someone is looking at you; “reading the room”)

  • nervous system sensitivity

  • gut-level knowing

  • clairsentience (clear-feeling)

3. Nonlocal Intuition

Nonlocal intuition is the inexplicable knowing not bound by time, space, or previous experience(s).

Key themes:

  • interconnectedness with nature / all beings

  • “psychic" experiences

  • telepathic empathy

  • predictions or prophetic dreams

Primary "clair" sense(s):

  • claircognizance (clear-knowing)

  • clairgustance (clear-smelling)

Reflect on your intuition

  1. Do you recognize your intuition in any of these types?

  2. Which one operates most naturally for you? Are you surprised by that result?

  3. Is there one of these you’d like to deepen?
